Daily Post #7 (Starscape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I want to start off by congratulating both Matt and Kyle on their first posts. Hopefully we'll see a lot more from them soon.

Second, I want to apologize for my semi-weak last post.

Third, STARSCAPE STARSCAPE STARSCAPE. Crazy festival going on in Baltimore on June 4th, 5 stages, tons of sicknasty DJ's, 16 hours or festivities, taking place on a fort overlooking the chesapeake... pretty much a wet dream. In light of this upcoming event, I will try to post music from some of the artists that will be performing at said event.

The artist list is enormous, but I'm gonna start off with a couple of DJ's that I personally love.

First off, is Skrillex. If any of you know me, you know that I LOVE Skrillex. As an added bonus, a track his track has been remixed by Dirtyphonics, another sick DJ that will be appearing at Starscape. (Raw Dirtyphonics to come at a later time)

Next, good ol' Flux Pavillion. Many of you may know them as "Manitee not stopping and compressing into glass" Well, here's the track that it was based off of. And again, as a bonus, a track by DJ Fresh that has been remixed by both Flux and Doctor P, another dubmaster that will be appearing at Starscape.

Add some flavors

Hi. I'm Matt. As you've heard, Tino has decided to be a baller and let me post some music on the most superiorest of blogs, so I'm gonna start off with some excellent chill-out songs.

Freelance Whales is a band I stumbled upon (without the help of stumbleupon, oddly) that has a beautiful, mostly acoustic sound using an variety of interesting instruments (alliteration!) that effectively create a hypnotizing overflow of sound. Good stuff.

"Generator 1st Floor" is one of those subdued acoustic songs that will swallow you whole. The instruments work together in undulating harmony, but the vocals of this particular song really grab at me. Their throaty expressions remind me of the avant-garde jazz movement's emulation of raw emotion, though the sentiments of the Freelance Whales music are nowhere near as jarring. This link is a live version of the song, which I personally prefer but isn't the exact same as the album track.

"Generator 2nd Floor" is a more upbeat song, a good follow up to "1st Floor" because it gently pulls you back out of the mental stupor that can come from listening to the latter and lifts you up to a more energetic mood.

When I played "1st Floor" for Kyle, he mentioned that it reminded him of "Wake Up" from Arcade Fire's album Funeral. Which led me to listen to this awesome album. It's one of the best albums as a whole that I've ever heard. Think of something Pink Floyd would turn out in terms of coherence between tracks. Here is a link for the album as a playlist on youtube; if you want to just hear "Wake Up", it's track 7, but I seriously recommend listening to the whole album, in one sitting if possible (it's only 47min55sec).

I wanna start off by giving a shoutout to Kyle and Matt. They have graciously agreed to help me put out some music on here. I know that a lot of time my music spectrum is limited but hopefully these two will help me spice things up and cover for me during my eventual relapse into non-posting.

Study... Study... Study... Study... RAAGE

With finals wrecking my normally lazy college life, 2 songs have been the theme of the last week.

The first is an excellent one if you want some great classical piano / orchestra to study to. Ludovico Einaudi is also one of the first modern composers who I have found to be extremely captivating; probably because his compositions all sound like movie soundtracks. What I've heard so far of his work seems to indicate that his pieces tend to be simple theme that builds on itself. Without further ado, Ludovico Einaudi with Primavera.

And after you're done studying, when you want to hear some music that should be played at the end of a long, successful day of studying... you want a song that'll make you inevitably do a victory dance. And what better to do that than a song from the good old 90's... remixed to add some bass awesomeness.

Some mellow electronica coming your way. It won't make you happy, just a warning.

Tron : Legacy was the worlds longest music video. The movie itself? Meh. The soundtrack? I thought it was excellent. It was very different from Daft Punk's other music, but that may have been due to the darkness of the movie itself. If the whole plot takes place in a world of black with lines of light, the music is bound to follow the same path. Tron Legacy : R3CONFIGUR3D was a bit of a disappointed as well. I expected much better remixes in an album that used 3's for E's. However, this next song was one that I particularly liked.

Every once in a while, you'll come across a song that puts you into a literal trance, where your thoughts start disappearing and your subconscious takes you on a pretty weird ride. Listen to them while you sleep and you will wake up going "WTF JUST HAPPENED" These include Highlander by The Cosmic Traveler (shoutout to Russell for introducing me to it's glory) and Space Mountain by Fuck Buttons. And now there's this: an extremely trippy, creepy, eerie, peculiarly named piece of awesome by Deadmau5.
